Just a quick post for those looking for the same thing….
I had to factory reset my new Galaxy S2 SR, I tweaked something that made the device completely unstable, and the instructions for the regular Samsung Galaxy S2 dont work.
Done, Nice and Clean
And yes, I know the Settings menu has a reset option, but the phone wouldn’t even work well enough to get to the menu

My phone started to act up. It was after the upgrade that was pushed by att and samsung. I had not used bluetooth right away, but when i turned it on, the phone started to reset itself in a cycle. all i wanted to do is to try to get into safe mode, but thta was not possible, so i called att for help, they couldnt provide me with the steps you provided me with to reset the phone. can you believe this, they said since i was not able to access menus i would not be able to do factory reset. i tell you. thank you for the tip.
Ive been playing with my phone and getting everything in order now. i just feel so impressed with the internet, and the millions of people around the world posting to it to address issues that are relevant to us and that we can search it and can do things to fix any problems.
Im glad i could help. Even Samsung didn’t know how to get the phone to reset. I spent a few hours playing with the buttons until i figured it out, i guess those guys didnt have the updated troubleshoot manual yet 🙂
I’ve noticed, with the new update, i can not go through those steps as described as i did earlier. Any input from what you have experienced with the new update and doing a factory reset?
Haven’t had to do a factory reset recently. But I will give it a try and see if can at least get into the menu. Once you are in the system menu, it should be the same no matter which firmware you are on.
will this undo the updates?? i want to undo the updates…
like roll back to an older firmware, no. To wipe out software that you may have installed, yes, it will do that.
Do you know how to get MMS to work. I just got my skyrocket today and I was loving it until one of my friends tried sending me a picture. I’ve googled it but none of the stuff I read worked. If anyone could help it would be amazing.
My MMS works perfect
Try these APN settings, they are very similar to what my SkyRocket uses
How long does the factory reset take?
factory reset takes like 5 minutes top
Helppppp!!! I did the jelly bean 4.1.1 update but the bugs pissed me off and I forgot to back up my original 2.3.6 gingerbread…how do I get my phone to work now…it only shows the first Samsung splash screen then stays black…Samsung gs2 skyrocket!!

Absolutely correct i agree with the given procedure, hard reset is indeed a panacea for thousands of issues occur on a phone. Let me share few of my experiences with you guys, I had some sort of problem on my Galaxy S2, it used to freeze quite often, initially I did nothing and felt its just a normal thing and will be all right on its own. But I was totally wrong because the phone became more drastic only after a week. This was the time when i started searching for a remedy, searched a ton on internet and finally came across a solution; I would say the best solution rather. Something that helped me to get rid of the problems was this http://howmobile.net/samsung/2150-how-hard-reset-samsung-galaxy-s2.html I got a strong feeling while I was reading your Blog and thought of contributing a little to help people like me. I mean those who are having problems on their phones like I have mentioned above.
